    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York (see cut songs below) ....... This is a rare November 24th, 1948 "Playgoer" playbill from the four-night, Pre-Broadway tryout of the GORDON JENKINS and TOM ADAIR musical revue "ALONG FIFTH AVENUE" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production would open January 13th, 1949 at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City and run for 180 performances.) ..... The musical starred NANCY WALKER and WILLIE HOWARD (who would be replaced by JACKIE GLEASON after collapsing in Philadelphia) and featured HANK LADD, CAROL BRUCE, DONALD RICHARDS, VIOLA ESSEN, JOHNNY COY, VIRGINIA GORSKI, JOYCE MATTHEWS, DICK BERNIE, LOUISE KIRTLAND, GEORGE S. IRVING, JUDYTH BURROUGHS, ZACHARY SOLOV, LEE KRIEGER and WALLACE SEIBERT ..... CREDITS: Sketches by CHARLES SHERMAN and NAT HIKEN; Music by GORDON JENKINS; Lyrics by TOM ADAIR; Additional Music and Lyrics by RICHARD STUTZ and MILTON PASCAL; Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by DAVID FFOLKES; Choreographed by ROBERT SIDNEY; Staged by ROBERT H. GORDON; Produced by ARTHUR LESSER ..... DETAILS: The 36 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Creme de la Creme" and "If" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a small torn piece at the top of the back cover and a light vertical crease, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard ..... SHIPPING DISCOUNTS: Check my "Other Items" for additional rare Broadway playbills and other theatre related memorabilia. Shipping discounts are available for multiple purchases when all items are combined into a single payment. Please wait for a revised invoice before sending payment ..... THANKS !!!
