    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut song below.) ....... This
is a rare four-page program (playbill) (includes one cut song) from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the musical revue "ALONG FIFTH AVENUE" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production would open January 13th, 1949 at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City and run for 180 performances.) ..... The musical starred NANCY WALKER and featured JACKIE GLEASON, HANK LADD, CAROL BRUCE, DONALD RICHARDS, VIOLA ESSEN, JOHNNY COY, VIRGINIA GORSKI, JOYCE MATTHEWS, DICK BERNIE, LOUISE KIRTLAND, GEORGE S. IRVING, JUDYTH BURROUGHS, ZACHARY SOLOV, LEE KRIEGER and WALLACE SEIBERT ..... CREDITS: Sketches by CHARLES SHERMAN and NAT HIKEN; Music by GORDON JENKINS; Lyrics by TOM ADAIR; Additional Music and Lyrics by RICHARD STUTZ and MILTON PASCAL; Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by DAVID FFOLKES; Choreographed by ROBERT SIDNEY; Produced by ARTHUR LESSER ..... DETAILS: The four page playbill measures 5 1/2" X 8 5/8" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and list of musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios ..... CUT SONG: The list of musical numbers includes "Creme de la Creme" which was cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian
