    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York (thirteen cut songs listed below) ....... This is a rare November 21st to 23rd, 1940 playbill from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the LEONARD SILLMAN musical revue "ALL IN FUN" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production would open December 27th, 1940 at the Majestic Theatre in New York City and close after only three performances.) ..... The revue starred BILL "Bojangles" ROBINSON and
PHIL BAKER (whose role was eliminated out-of-town) and
featured IMOGENE COCA, JERRY LESTER (replaced out-of-town), PERT KELTON, ROSITA MORENO, RED MARSHALL, DAVID MORRIS, HOPE MANNING, NANCY NOLL, BEN LESSY, WALTER CASSEL, BILL JOHNSON, ANITA ALVAREZ, CANDIDO BOTHELO, FLOWER HUJER, LYN LOGAN, MAURICE KELLY, WILLIAM ARCHIBALD, PUK PARRIS, DOROTHY DENNIS and BETZI BEATON ..... CREDITS: Book by VIRGINIA FAULKNER and EVERETT MARCY; Music and Lyrics by BALDWIN BERGERSON, JUNE SILLMAN, JOHN ROX, IRVIN GRAHAM, WILL IRWIN, VIRGINIA FAULKNER, PEMBROKE DAVENPORT and S. K. RUSSELL; Additional Material by BLANCHE MERRILL; Sets designed by EDWARD GILBERT; Costumes designed by IRENE SHARAFF; Choreographed by MARJORIE FIELDING; Directed by EDGAR MacGREGOR; Produced by LEONARD SILLMAN ..... DETAILS: The 32 page playbill measures 6 1/8" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and list of musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "April in Harrisburg", "Back to My Shack", "Brunnhulde Steps Out", "But No", "Hocus Pocus", "I've Been Here Before With Love", "I've Grown Up", "The Lady Can Love", "Lazy Boy", "Lion Tamer", "Man in the White House", "Prettiest Piece in Greece" and "Trailing Along in a Trailer" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
